Description

Mas El Güell is 840m above sea level, in the area known as La Vola (Sant Pere de Torelló). The house stands in one of the most beautiful settings in Osona, indeed in the whole country. It is between Vic and Olot, on the Collsacabra range and at the foot of the gulleys running off Puigsacalm (1500m). The house is surrounded by forests in which the beech stands and the oaks, box, elms and ash dominate. These woods are interspersed with meadows and mountain streams. Along with the exuberant biodiversity, special mention should be made of the local fauna, with some protected species. The location of La Vola, at the head of the River Fornés, the watershed for the Ges Valley, means that it has been declared a Natural Site of Special Interest by the Catalan government. We are only an hour and a half from Barcelona and its metropolitan area (93 km on the C-17 - dual carriageway as far as Torelló) and just an hour away from Girona via La Garrotxa.

The earliest parts of the farmhouse date back to the 15th century, though the main part, as well as the byre, was constructed, or reconstructed in the 17th century. The restoration of the farmhouse, now adapted to cater for up to 12 guests, has done nothing to spoil its pleasant rustic charm. The house has a separate kitchen, a cosy dining room, two fireplaces, bedrooms equipped with central heating, a video-TV-DVD lounge, and fully equipped shared bathrooms, and looks out over the meadows where the horses of the house graze, and the River Fornés...

The main activity at Mas El Güell is horse-riding with pony trekking routes through the mountains, but you can also enjoy a number of walks through the whole area (Cabrerès, Serra de Llancers, Vall del Fornés, Vall d’en Bas, Puigsacalm...). From El Güell you can join the long-distance footpath that leads on the one hand to the Chapel of Sant Nazari, and on the other, to the Fageda de La Grevolosa, a majestic beech wood containing the tallest beech tress in Catalunya. We are also very near the Sanctuary of Cabrera, which offers some of the most spectacular views in the whole of the Principality. It is, then, a very attractive spot, ideal for those who wish to enjoy a unique mountain landscape.
