Description

Les Masies de Roda, placed at 5km from Manlleu, almost involves the village of de Roda de Ter excepting towards the West, where Les Masies de Roda and Gurb converge.
The village is basically placed not only in manor-houses (masos) (many of them are from Middle Ages: important manor-houses in the area’s History), but also in four population centres: Les Cases Noves, l’Esquerda, Fontanelles and el Vicenç.
In the year 1805 Les Masies de Roda and Roda de Ter were segregated from the village of Sant Pere de Roda, however its History dated from ancient civilizations because the archaeological site of l’Esquerda, placed over a meander of the river Ter, was an settlement occupied first by Iberians and until Middle Age times.

Monastery of Sant Pere de Casserres

Monastery of Sant Pere de Casserres
It is one of the most exceptional monuments of 11th Century Catalan architecture. In the year 1931 it was declared as historic-artistic Monument and therefore, it is a Cultural Good of National Interest.

Rests of the primitive castle are still conserved. Castle was also declared as Cultural Good of National Interest in the year 1993, and the rests are consisted in a Carolingian wall that has opus spicatum .

Archaeological excavations of l’Esquerda

L Esquerda. Iberian and medieval site
L’Esquerda is an Iberian and medieval site placed in Les Masies de Roda. Its privileged and strategic localization over the river Ter, has make this place to be occupied since pre-History, along Iberian times and until the Middle Age. There are archaeological excavation works in the site since the year 1977.

Site was declared as a Cultural Good of National Interest the 18th of July of 2006.

Masia el Bac de Roda
The manor-house of el Bac, also called del Bac de Roda, is one of the most ancient manor-houses in Osona, documented since 13th Century endings. There lived Francesc Macià i Ambert, known as Bac de Roda, because he married the house’s heiress. During Successió’s War, Bac de Roda commanded a group of 600 shooters in favour of Carles III. He fought against the troops of Felip V.

Finally, he died by hanging in the Puig de les Davallades of Vic when it was proclaimed Felip d’Anjou’s victory.

Hermit of Sant Salvador de Còdol
Sant Salvador’s hermit was built at the end of 19th Century. It belonged to the Colony of Còdol Dret. It is placed in a very beautiful spot, surrounded by forest and very close to the swampof Sau. Currently, every Sunday of May, it is celebrated in there l’Aplec of Sant Salvador, with popular rice and sardanes popular dance.

Hermit of Santa Magdalena de Conangle

Ermita de Santa Magdalena de Conangle
The hermit of Santa Magdalena was originally Romanesque, however, through the years, it has suffered some modifications. It is place over a high and wide meander of the river Ter and it is formed by the church, the lateral chapels, the bell tower and the cloister.

Church of Sant Miquel de la Guàrdia
Sant Miquel de la Guàrdia’s church is documented since the year 1012. It is placed over a meander of the river Ter in the site called La Guàrdia, very close to current residential centre of the Vicenç in Les Masies de Roda.

Ruins of the Castle of S’Avellana
It was a castle-bastion from which there are the rests of the walls, the stair and a tower’s basement. It is placed behind the Puig de Conangle, over a rocked extreme and very close to the river Ter. The Castle of s’Avellana is documented since 1067 and it was declared as a Cultural Good of National Interest in the year 1993.

The ice pit
Ice well of the 18th Century, circled shape, with 5,63 m. of deepness, 6,9 m of diameter, 50 cm of wall’s width and an small entrance door.

Estatut de Sau’s monument
This monument is a monolith in commemoration to the Estatut of the year 1979, redacted in 1978 in the Parador de Turismo of Les Masies de Roda. It was inaugurated in 1982 and it is placed at the Parador’s entrance.

The Parador
It is placed in the peninsula of Casserres, in fornt of the Swamp of Sau, that is why it is also called Parador de Turismo de Sau. The building reproduces a typical Catalan nobility manor house and it is placed in one of the most beautiful spots of Osona.

The industrial Past
The textile colonies are very important in our industrial heritage. The colonies and the exceptional landscape make the Industrial Revolution in Catalonia different. The process of industralization trnasformed the landscape and the population centres of Les Masies de Roda and Roda de Ter. At the end of the 19th century some of the most important factories were located in Les Masies de Roda. Tehre were four big companies: two industrial colonies, Còdol-Dret (1862-1964) ran by Rómulo Bosch Alzina; and Salou (1864-1964) ran by Baurier family; and the other two factories were Can Grau and Els Molins. The reservoir of Sau, built to provide water to Barcelona, meant the end of Còdol-Dret and Salou.

Nowadays Còdol-Dret is completely covered by water. Only a few ruins which weren’t covered by water can be seen.
In Salou enough buildings can be seen to show that it was one of the most important and also unknown textile colonies of Catalonia.

Trekking path Camí Vora Ter GR-210
Long distance trekking path, of 61 Km, it passes through Les Masies de Roda. It approximates us not only to flora and fauna’s patrimony but also the cultural and industrial ones.

It is a PR-C40 variation, Vich goes from the llom de Casserres to Les Tallades (Sau), with a distance of 7,600 Km. and an approximated duration of 1 h and 40 min.
