Description

Montesquiu is a village in the Bisaura, in the north of the comarca of Osona that covers a total area of 4.8 km² of rugged terrain at an average height of 560 m above sea level.

The relief of this area marks the transition from the Vic Plain to the Pyrenean mountains.

The name of the village of comes from that of the most important building to be found here, Montesquiu Castle, which together with its surrounding Comarcal Park are the main tourist attractions in the area.

Castle and Park of Montesquiu Castle Montesquiu

Castle was in fact a fortified manor house, used by the feudal Lords of Besora. The house was already in existence at the end of the 13th century, though the original construction certainly dates to back to earlier times. In the 19th century the Castle passed into non-aristocratic hands and since 1976 has been owned by the Diputació de Barcelona. The Castle and its grounds are open to the public on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays from 11.00 to 14.00, with guided visits to the interior of the Castle.

La Font d’en Nando

Is a leisure area with barbecues and tables and a large open space for the enjoyment of both adults and children. Just beside this are the municipal swimming pools and the area for playing petanca - a kind of ’bowls’, as well as a small children’s playground.

Trekking path Camí Vora Ter GR 210

Long distance trekking path, of 61 Km, it passes through Montesquiu. It approximates us not only to flora and fauna’s patrimony but also the cultural and industrial ones.
