Description

Park of Sant Quirze de Besora. Photograph, author: el855
Sant Quirze is the gateway to and service centre of the sub-comarca of Bisaura, which is formed by the villages of Sta. Maria de Besora, Vidrà, Montesquiu and Sora. Its most popular tourist attractions are the Promenade alongside the Ter together with the various springs scattered around the village and the surrounding Pre-Pyrenean scenery.

Not to be forgotten, though, is the very popular home-style cooking of its restaurants.

Many historic figures have stayed in Sant Quirze starting with the Countess Ermessenda , daughter of Count Roger, who for 64 years decided the fate of the citizens of the lands of the Count of Barcelona and its allied territories.

One of the squares in the village is named in her honour. The village was also home to Carme Martí , the creator of the internationally known "Martí system" of dress-making, which set out to provide women with the means to be socially and economically independent.

The house in which she was born still stands (near to the Council House) and carries a commemorative plaque in her memory.
